Now we need to focus on the other side of the coin…like what stocks we need to purge from our portfolios. The 112 stocks below is a good place to start. That is because each was recently downgraded to Sell and Strong Sell on the POWR Rating system.

Remember that the POWR Ratings system is focused on the stocks experiencing the most momentum at this time. Thus, D & F rated stocks have the least momentum. And they likely fell to that lowly place because of a negative fundamental catalyst. The most common of which would be a recent earnings miss that would have shares spiraling south.

Or in the case of Boeing (BA) you have a special situation with their 737 Max planes that is making it hard for airlines to purchase new planes from the company. That is the kind of stink that can linger in the air over a stock for a long time leading to continued underperformance. So even though Boeing was a steady performer for the past several years, that party is now over.

But digging deeper into the sell list we see a mix of stocks that are either too aggressive…don’t provide enough income…or had weak earnings results this past quarter pushing investors away from shares.

History shows that companies that miss earnings are much more likely to repeat that feat in the future. That is another way of saying it is better to sell those shares now before they potentially decline even further in price.
