Shares of J. B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. JBHT, -1.11% fell more than 4% in the extended session Monday after the trucking company reported first-quarter earnings and sales that fell short of expectations. J. B. Hunt said it earned $119.6 million, or $1.09 a share, in the quarter, compared with $118.1 million, or $1.07 a share, in the year-ago period. Revenue rose 7% to $2.09 billion. Intermodal revenue per load excluding fuel surcharges rose about 11%, but that was offset by a 7% decline in volumes, the company said. Analysts polled by FactSet had expected earnings of $1.25 a share on sales of $2.2 billion. Shares of J. B. Hunt had ended the regular trading session down 1.1%.
J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. shares fell $4.50 (-4.27%) in after-hours trading Monday. Year-to-date, JBHT has gained 13.66%, versus a 16.56% rise in the benchmark S&P 500 index during the same period.
