The leader in water technology is a more attractive company with a better growth outlook and a lower stock price after its purchase of Evoqua.
Evoqua CEO Ron Keating told Wall Street analysts Tuesday that the Pittsburgh-based company would focus on its current business through the conclusion of the pending $7 billion acquisition by Xylem Inc. later this year. Keating spoke briefly at the beginning of the call about the rationale for the combination of Evoqua and Xylem (NYSE: XYL), a Washington, D.C.-based publicly traded company that also makes water pumps and other equipment.
Evoqua Water (AQUA) delivered earnings and revenue surprises of 13.33% and 2.09%, respectively, for the quarter ended December 2022. Do the numbers hold clues to what lies ahead for the stock?

Shares in water and wastewater treatment solutions company Evoqua Water Technologies (NYSE: AQUA) rose 15.5% this week through Thursday. The big news was Xylem's (NYSE: XYL) acquisition of the company in an all-stock transaction valuing Evoqua at around $7.5 billion. Xylem generates 55% of its sales internationally.
Xylem announced it's acquiring Evoqua for $7.5 billion in an all-stock deal amid the worst U.S. drought in a millennium.
