$MKSI If you want a real-time example of manipulation as a case study, watch this stock. About a month ago, management announced its intentions to acquire $ATC, which had just gone public back in February, which was right around the time the insider lockup period was about to expire. Investors/ Funds usually take this opportunity in the lead up to the lockup expiration to lighten up on shares and take the short side of the trade, in anticipation of potential for excess selling. Well, in this case, many went short the name only to wake up to the headline that MKS had reached a deal to acquire ATC, leaving many shorts caught with their pant pulled down. Since then, there has been tremendous ( obvious ) sector-divergent pressure on the shares of MKS, which, I assume, is an attempt on behalf of ATC shorts to exit their blown up trades. While, the market may be discounting the possibility of shareholder dilution, it shouldn't move the beta needle as much as it has. Buy tomorrows weakness
