Gas Engines, and the People Behind Them, Are Cast Aside for Electric Vehicles https://www.wsj.com/articles/gas-engines-cast-aside-electric-vehicles-job-losses-detroit-11627046285
I'm a GTX bull for this decade, but it was disconcerting to hear the innovation and development divisions are already closing up shop on the gasoline engine. Still, existing designs will need to be turbocharged. Small gas engines still work great for reliable small scale power generation, although turbocharging them probably doesn't make any sense. Until electric energy storage technology improves by some leaps, I feel like diesel engines will be a viable power conversion device for large vehicles/vessels for quite some time. Also, how do electric vehicles cope with very cold climates? It takes tons of energy to maintain comfortable cabin temperatures, doesn't it? Lastly, turbopumps are a hallmark of rocket propulsion and aren't too different, mechanically, from turbochargers. With more space vehicles becoming a thing, perhaps turbo makers have a new use case to sell?
