You've got to love a company like Acuity Brands (AYI). The lighting and building system maker delivered a win despite growing challenges in the field. The story of the victorious underdog has been with us since Bible times, and it's always gratifying to see it again. Acuity recently had its own David and Goliath story that ended much the same way when it brought out its earnings report. It's for that reason that I'm bullish on Acuity. (See Acuity stock charts on TipRanks) The company brought in Q4 earnings of $3.27 per share. Wall Street consensus estimates were looking for $2.85, while a Zacks consensus was looking for $2.89.
Acuity Brands (AYI) has reported better-than-expected quarterly earnings and revenue in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2021. The company engages in the provision of lighting and building management solutions and services. Revenue during the quarter jumped 11.4% year-over-year to $992.7 million, surpassing the Street's expectations of $965.6 billion. Meanwhile, adjusted earnings of $3.27 per share also came ahead of analysts' expectations of $2.87 per share. The company had reported earnings of $2.35 per share in the year-ago quarter. Acuity Brands Lighting and Lighting Controls' (ABL) net sales increased 11%, as it benefitted from improved service levels and an improving economy. Sales of Intelligent Spaces Group (ISG) jumped 23.
Acuity Brands broke out after the maker of lighting fixtures and controls reported Q4 earnings that beat expectations.
Toward the end of trading Wednesday, the Dow traded up 0.08% to 34,342.65 while the NASDAQ rose 0.38% to 14,489.14. The S&P also rose, gaining 0.19% to 4,353.99. The U.S. has the highest number of coronavirus cases and deaths in the world, reporting a total of 43,950,080 cases with around 705,280 deaths. India confirmed a total of at least 33,871,880 cases and 449,530 deaths, while Brazil reported over 21,499,070 COVID-19 cases with 598,820 deaths. In total, there were at least 235,908,850 cases
Key market indexes were lower midday, as the Dow Jones industrials fell nearly 300 points but Microsoft and Salesforce held small gains.
Midway through trading Wednesday, the Dow traded down 0.92% to 33,997.95 while the NASDAQ fell 0.49% to 14,362.47. The S&P also fell, dropping 0.75% to 4,313.33.
