Top 25 Breakout Momentum Stocks

NYSE: JPM | JPMorgan Chase & Co. News, Ratings, and Charts

JPM – Bank stocks like JPM and BAC lead this pack of 25 runaway momentum stocks. Check out the full list and stringent criteria to uncover these explosive momentum shares.

Stocks finally made new record highs today. To celebrate this new round of bullish optimism I wanted to track down the stocks experiencing the most momentum at this time.

Meaning…the most timely stocks for this bull run.

Sitting atop the list are two surprising mega cap bank stocks JP Morgan (JPM - Get Rating) and Bank of America (BAC). Let’s talk a little more about each.

JP Morgan is just one of the most consistent earnings performers. This was on proud display with their 9% earnings beat and raise for Q3. This is proof that JPM can produce quality earnings even in a low rate environment. But now that rates are coming higher bit by bit, then it only adds to the attractiveness of shares.

That’s why JPM is up 34% YTD. Looking further back we see that this momentum is not just a short term phenomenon because it has rallied 98% in the past 3 years and 144% in the past 5 years.

Bank of America boasts similarly impressive earnings results including a 10% earnings beat this past quarter which has shares up 8% in the past month. Looking back over 2019 to date we see BAC has produced a 31.4% return that expands to 101% when we go three years back.

You might be wondering how this full list of top 25 momentum stocks was put together. So let me pull back the curtain on this research project that looked for momentum around every corner and under every stone.

Not only are they all POWR Rating of A (Strong Buy), but they also scored a A for all 4 of the POWR Rating components:

  • Buy & Hold Grade of A
  • Trade Grade of A
  • Industry Rank of A
  • Peer Grade of A

Next I wanted each stock to be above all the key technical levels such as the 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 day moving average. Meaning it has both short and long term momentum in its corner.

When you add it altogether you can appreciate how this research process narrowed down to the 25 stocks with breakout momentum coming out of every pore. Enjoy the full list below. Just click on the tickers to continue your research on each stock.

(One last note: See how many of these stocks are in the banking/financial space. That is what led me to recently add the S&P Regional Banking ETF (KRE) to Reitmeister Total Return portfolio).
